NHS and establishment of NHS Supplies

NHS and establishment of NHS Supplies

Weiner, (2012),  indicated that there are many description of the National Health Service (NHS), which is majorly associated with its functions. These services include the provision of public service, a source of fund, and a knowledge pool. The However, the general definition, which is accepted as a legal term is defined through legislation, through the successive Act of the Parliament. However, since NHS is not a corporate body, there is no a single mission statement for the sector. Therefore, National Health Service mission is identified under its major roles, which gives its general description. Some of these roles include the provision of health care services to the public. The heath services are provided according to the requirement of the whole population and according to the needs of each heath department. Further, the National Health Service provides procurement and free delivery at the point required.

In terms of its organization, the NHS Supplies consists of separate administrative health systems, which were established when the NHS was created. These administrative systems specialize in provision of health care services. The first system is the primary health care, which included the family doctors and later translated to independent contractor with the new NHS. The second section is made of the public health, disease prevention and health promotion and which is restrained as part of the local government. The third section includes the hospital and specialist services, which was removed from the myriad of predecessor funding and management arrangement. NHS, from the time it was established, it is funded largely through the general taxation revenue. For this reason, the entire population has access to all the advanced services available in medicine sector.

However, Weiner, (2012), indicated that since its establishment, there has been funding pressure on the NHS, which has contributed to the emergence of waiting list for treatment on the continuing deferral levels all over the country. As a result, there were major scrutiny by the government in order to improve the performance and make the money to go further. Then there was a major structural change in the management and operation of NHS. It is from these management changes that saw through the development a NHS procurement and supplies management agency. The agency is what is now referred to as the National Health Service Supplies, which main aim is to offer procurement services to the whole sector in the economy.
