Graduate program: Visual Communication Design MFA (interaction design option)

1). Please upload a personal statement describing your educational objectives. You may wish to address: (1) why you are applying for the program, (2) how your degree program will relate to your long-range career objectives, (3) what personal or “non-academic” qualities you will contribute to the learning environment in your program, (4) what prior experience you have with respect to your chosen program, and (5) specifically why you want to attend RIT.

2). A writing sample is not a requirement for your program, however, you may choose to upload a writing sample to support your application. Your writing sample may be an example of your research, publications, project or other scholarly written work.

A sample of critical writing from any discipline. The document should be either a previous academic paper or a sample of your professional writing. The purpose of this piece is to show us your ability to write at the level of a college graduate at minimum. Please do not submit creative writing pieces or papers with editing and grading marks on them.

Please describe your plans for graduate study or research and for your future occupation or profession. Include any information that may aid the selection committee in evaluating your preparation and qualifications for graduate study at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Recommended length is a concise 2-4 pages.

Be sure to check the content to make sure you have the correct graduate school listed – UC Santa Cruz – before submitting. Include your name in the footer of each page of your Statement of Purpose.

Required of all applicants. This statement will be used in conjunction with your application for graduate admission and financial support. Note that the Personal History Statement should not duplicate the Statement of Purpose. Recommended length is a concise 1-3 pages.

UC Santa Cruz is interested in a diverse and inclusive graduate student population. In an essay, discuss how your personal background informs your decision to pursue a graduate degree. Include any educational, familial, cultural, economic, or social experiences, challenges, or opportunities relevant to your academic journey; how you might contribute to social or cultural diversity within your chosen field; and/or how you might serve educationally underrepresented segments of society with your degree.

1).Tell us your personal vision for how you can impact the world of games.

2.) Critical Analysis

Provide a thoughtful analysis of a game you know well. We are not looking for a description of the game but instead you should demonstrate some original insight into the game. For example: what does or doesn’t work about the game, what would you change about the game, or what is an interesting aspect of the game that an average player might not notice. No more than 1 page, in PDF format.
